We had a light-to-moderate shower the entire time, but Tiger made sure to keep it a great experience for everyone,... including my family who rode in four boats. In fact, the rain and clouds actually kept it much cooler for us than what people likely experience on a regular basis. Nature's unpredictable, so you've got to go into the experience valuing the company, the beauty and curiosity of nature, and the possibility of discovery. We all (about 12 boats) passed within about 15 feet of a small alligator (~4 feet) without it moving or submerging. We saw evidence of alligators all around us. But when I think my family and I were about to give up on the possibility of seeing another, we saw a very large head pop out of the water about 75 yards back, right where we had just been. It was so cool to think it had likely been under our kayaks as we went through. Tiger's commentary was responsive to the uniqueness of the day, and he made an effort to interact with everyone in our group, even though there were times when the group could not physically fit into the same space at every stopping point. We'd already spent three days in the Outer Banks but hadn't heard any of the stories behind the names of several local towns and attractions. In dead moments and pauses, Tiger filled us in with tons of interesting local facts and even gave us ideas for other things to do on our vacation.read more

My husband and I loved our kayaking experience with Outer Banks Kayaking Adventures! We did the Roanoke Island one so... we heard some history about the Lost Colony. The beginning part is quiet, calm and slow then once you get out to the sound the water is choppy which makes it more interesting! We stopped along side the island on some sand, saw some crabs and enjoyed the view. It was such a cool way to get to enjoy the natural beauty! Our guide- Rebecca- was so kind and helpful. It was our first time kayaking so no need to be intimidated. All I brought on the kayak was my water and some bug spray. We went in late May and the bugs weren’t too bad. Just some deer flies as it got hotter as we pulled back into the place where we put out. Oh and go first thing in the morning before it gets super hot!read more

My 21-year-old son and I had a wonderful tour with Gavin. The day was perfect weather-wise, and Gaven was perfect... guide-wise. He was laid back, attentive, and widely knowledgeable. The pace of paddling was leisurely. Gaving made it easy to converse about the flora and fauna as well as larger issues that impact this small piece of the planet. My son, who usually plays his cards close to the vest, actually left enthusiastic and expressed how much fun he had on the tour. Gavin made this hour-and-a-half one of the most pleasing adventures we've had in the Outer Banks over may years of coming here.read more

Our trip was so fun and informative with Gavin as our guide! He did a great job keeping us safe and teaching us about... the Maritime Forrest. The trip isn’t too strenuous, but challenging in a good way. I couldn’t get enough and I hope to go back someday soon. 10 out of 10 would recommend!read more

I did the marsh tour with a group of friends about a week ago, it was a perfect weather to kayak through the beautiful... maritime forest, however the trip seemed a but rushed, as if the guide was on a very tight schedule.Half of the group said they could not hear the guide explain the history and nature because they could not keep up. Also you had to be quick if you wanted a picture of turtles, birds, or anything. The only stop was a couple minutes at the canal bridge at turning point, with a short time for pictures or getting a quick snack or drink.read more

Me and my family had a great time with Gavin as our guide. We had the only child in the group we went with. Our son is... 11 and had a great time learning about the turtles, birds and plants we saw. But the best thing, by far, were the snakes. Gavin said, "we may see a few cotton mouths, so be on the lookout in the shrubs on the sides." We saw no fewer than 18 snakes some of which were HUGE! I'm not saying this to scare anyone. It was amazing seeing thee animals in their natural habitat sunning themselves on the branches. Gavin was perfect in telling people how to avoid them, remaining calm and so no one in the tour group was nervous. He had great natural history info and bots of history for this area. Those who didn't like snakes just stayed paddling in the middle of the water.Gavin also made sure to connect with each paddler even as we spread out a bit. All in all, this was one of the highlights of our stay in OBX.read more

Highly recommended. We had two tandem kayaks for my husband and me and our two boys 13 and 10 on the Alligator River... tour. It's a beautiful location and we saw lots of turtles and an alligator. Helpful guides and educational. Would go again 100%. Afterwards do the wildlife drive through the preserve which is right off the road you take to the put in site. We saw a river otter and about a million turtles and several heron!read more

Participated in the bioluminescence tour and had a great time! Admittedly a shorter trip than I anticipated but connor,... our guide, made it super fun and informative! He gave us knowledge about the area and about the bioluminescent life we were able to witness. He was also super relaxed and kept us laughing the whole trip. Recommend to all and our group will love to return and do a different trip with this company.read more

Had a wonderful time! Went as a family and it was really well put together. Instructor was very knowledgeable about... kayaking, history of the site, and surrounding nature and wildlife. I have a lot of experience with kayaking and have been formally trained but those in my family didn’t have any experience. It was cool to see them really learn how to maneuver a kayak and listen to the guide on the tour. Highly recommend this!Definitely wear something you don’t mind getting a little wet. Some people on the tour were upset they got wet but it’s totally normal to have some water get in the kayak. Any kind of quick dry clothes would be perfect for this.read more
