6pm Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Kayak Tour

If you’re a bird lover, then check out our Pea Island kayak tour! Witness the wide variety of unique and rare birds that can be seen as you paddle through the beautiful Pamlico Sound. With an impressive list of 365 species of reported bird sightings along Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, there is a high probability that you may see your favorite bird up close and personal. Some of the common birds that can potentially be seen as you explore the waters of Pea Island are the Brown Pelican, Royal Tern, American Avocet, heron, egret, and the gorgeous white Ibis. If you aren’t a bird person, don’t worry. This small barrier island located at the northern end of Hatteras is also home to many different aquatic creatures including Loggerhead sea turtles. As we move along the sound, the clear shallow water provides us with a fantastic view of stingray, crabs, skates, and other marine wildlife.
As you tour the beautiful Pea Island, our expert guides will tell you all about the history of the island along with interesting facts about coastal ecology. This tour meets at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge ramp parking at milepost 34 which is just past the New Inlet bridge. Footwear is recommended for this kayak tour.
Tour length: Approximately 2 hours
Prices: $50 per adult / $35 for children ages 12 and under / $60 for SUPs
Tour meeting directions: Use Google Maps to Pea Island, Kinnakeet NC. Continue south of the Pea Island Visitor Center and cross the New Inlet Bridge. The paved parking lot will be on the right hand side of the road at milepost 34. Please be sure to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the tour start time.
